I have very fond memories of a few weeks spent at St Luke's Hospital, Vengurla. This was about 1980. I had been asked by Rev Bill Barker (a friend of Dr Ronald S Seaton) to go there as a volunteer to help fix various electrical & electronic equipment that wasn't working. This turned out to be a lot of equipment, including a number of X-Ray units, incubators, centrifuges, and the like. (Much of the equipment at the hospital was 2nd hand having been donated from a number of hospitals in the USA when they were upgrading. It was designed for 110Vac operation, and conversion was generally needed to allow operation from the local 240Vac power supply.) A number of other foreign volunteers were there at the same time - Otis Brown (a Dental Surgeon) his wife & daughter, and June McCracken (a Medical Scientist). Most of the overseas volunteers to the hospital were from the USA, however I'm an Aussie, so everyone I met wanted to discuss the Cricket Test matches that were being played that summer! I really enjoyed working together with the local staff. I remember the local Doctor as being very dedicated. I also remember visiting the beach (which was very beautiful) and the local markets. I am interested to learn how the hospital is going now.
